How to Style a Show-Stopping Halloween Porch

Autumn porch decorated for Halloween with glowing pumpkins and lanterns

Your porch is the first thing trick-or-treaters and party guests see, which makes it the easiest spot in the house to make a big Halloween impact. A few well-placed pumpkin props, some thoughtful layering and a little warm light can turn an ordinary front door into a proper scene-setter.

Start with a pumpkin cluster

One lonely pumpkin by the door looks like an afterthought. A group of them, in different sizes, looks like a display. Our six-piece pumpkin venue layout set (£33.68) gives you an instant grouping to work with: line them along the steps, alternate heights, and tuck a few autumn leaves around the bases to finish it off. It's currently 10% off until 1 November.

Add height and warm light

Once the pumpkins are down, build upwards. Stack a couple of wooden crates or an old stool behind the cluster and perch a pumpkin on top — instant depth. Then add light: fairy lights threaded through the group or a few flameless candles tucked between pumpkins make the whole arrangement glow after dark. Real candles look lovely but they're a risk on a busy doorstep with costumes brushing past, so flameless is the safer pick.

Finish the scene

The small touches are what sell it: a Halloween doormat, a simple wreath on the door, maybe a hanging sign. Keep the path clear of trip hazards so little trick-or-treaters can reach the door safely. And if you're hosting, carry the same pumpkin-and-warm-light theme inside — our guide to a cosy Halloween night at home has ideas for the living room too.
